YOUR FIRST VISIT
Your first visit will begin with an in-depth assessment of your condition and an initial treatment.
You will receive a customized treatment plan detailing an appropriate course of treatment for your specific condition.
In general, acute conditions of recent onset may only require two or three treatments. Chronic conditions usually require more treatments to achieve sustained results.
One course of treatment usually lasts 10- 12 weeks, at which point we will assess the progress that you've made, and decide on future course of action.
We ask that you fill out our initial intake form (click to download) prior to your visit. If you are unable to do so, please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment as we have copies available in our office.
Needles are typically retained for about 30-45 minutes. People oftentimes fall asleep during a treatment and experience a deep sense of relaxation and well being.
In addition to acupuncture, treatments may include:
• Heat Therapy

• Gua Sha (scraping therapy)
• Nutritional Supplements
• Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations
PREPARING FOR YOUR TREATMENT
If you have any questions, please call Driftwood Acupuncture & Wellness prior to your first visit.
Please come prepared to provide us with a list of all your current medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, and vitamins.
Please provide any lab or medical reports relevant to your condition.
Eat a light meal a few hours prior to your visit. Acupuncture is not performed on individuals who are fasting. At the same time, please do not overeat or eat any foods that cause your stomach to be upset.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Many of the acupuncture points that are commonly used are located between the wrists and elbows and the ankles and knees. However, acupuncture points are located all over the body and may need to be accessed depending on your condition.
We are in-network providers with Blue Shield & United Healthcare, but are are NOT in-network with any plans Managed by ASH (American specialty health)
If you have acupuncture benefits through another carrier, we are happy to provide you with a Superbill (an itemized receipt) for you to submit for reimbursement, OR, if you prefer, we will bill your insurance as an Out-of-Network Provider.
You can also use your Health Savings (HSA) or Flex Spending Account (FSA) to pay for Acupuncture.
We would be happy to verify the details of your coverage prior to scheduling your first appointment. Simply send us an email indicating:
•Insurance Company Name
• Your Name
• Date of birth
• Primary insured’s name and date of birth if different from you
• Member ID
• Group #
and we will get back to you within 48 business hours.
Medicare does NOT cover Acupuncture.
However, Medicare patients can be reimbursed if they have a supplemental PPO insurance plan. Before submitting to your PPO, you must first submit to Medicare, receive their denial, and send the denial letter with your claim to your supplemental PPO. We can provide you with a Superbill for your visit, but cannot file any of the paperwork for you. All payments have to be made to us in full at the time of service.
